Name It And Claim It – The “Prosperity Gospel”

In a prayer group that I attended, one of the women came down with cancer. She was a young mother with two children. The prayer group formed a circle around her and prayed for her healing. They did this every week for a very long time. The problem with this was that they “named and claimed” her healing. They “commanded” it and “declared” it, and believed it. She had two children and they were told that their mother WILL be healed!

But Laurie died.

The travesty of this kind of praying is the forced belief in something that was not to be. The greater tragedy came as her children were left with what was supposed to not happen. And herein lies the danger in the false teaching coming out of the “prosperity gospel.” When someone is told that either they, or a loved one, will certainly be healed and then that person dies – what becomes of the children who had believed that surely their mother was going to be healed?

This kind of false teaching could result in believers falling away when they forced “faith” and the opposite happened. How many have been lost to the faith after suffering this terrible assault against what they had truly believed?

The “Word of Faith” movement is deadly.
