The Great Men Of God
Their stories

In every generation there are men and women whose hearts are on fire for the Lord, and especially for lost souls. They go forth to bring the Gospel to the world. Sometimes they pay a heavy price for their calling, but nothing stops a man or woman when the spark of revival is in their hearts.
Here are stories of these great men and woman of God. Let them inspire you.
He crawled under a fence so no one would see him going to pray. That one desperate
act in an American forest in 1821 would end up igniting a revival that saved over
100,000 souls in a single city. This is not a polished church story. This is the raw,
painful, supernatural journey of a man who started with no Bible, no faith, and no
answers — and ended up as the most consequential revivalist in American history.
George Muller – the man who lived by faith, trusting God for all his provision, refusing
to ask anyone but God for all his needs, and who built orphanages to support more than
a hundred thousand children – asking only God to sustain them. And …he did.
This is a story that had a particular impact on me. After watching this story I truly had to
repent of complaining about the daily little frustrations we all encounter. Their sacrifice
and dedication is an example for us all to follow.Description
Called “the Prince of Preachers,” Charles Spurgeon was one of the most gifted
preachers of the Gospel the world has ever known. At his funeral, businesses were
shut down so the people could attend. He started as a young boy preacher and
eventually preached to thousands. What a gift of God he not only was, but still
is today through his wonderful sermons.
D L Moody, born into poverty, was not an educated man. But when he had an
encounter with the Lord, everything in his life changed. Throughout his ministry he
would face severe heartaches and pain, but he remained steadfast to the end. On
his deathbed he saw loved ones and his face was radiant as he stepped into eternity.
John Wycliffe is a man who dared to come against the sins of the clergy, their pompous
pride, and their hatred toward him as he exposed their corruption and dared stand against
their self-proclaimed authority over the Bible. In spite of vicious persecution, Wycliffe
succeeded in translating the Bible into the English language, believing the Word of God
is not just for clergy, but it is the right of all to be able to read the record God himself has
given us to make us know his Son and the salvation he provided.
Perhaps the best known of the great men of God is John Wesley. The development of
John’s spiritual life was a struggle, having come from a very regimented and disciplined
background, the Lord had to teach him what it means to be a child of God. Only then
was he able to succeed in bringing people into the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.
Along with his brother Charles, they reached out to the poor and to all people, and
multitudes were saved.
Evan Roberts was a young college student, as the Spirit of God was preparing him
for the great role he would play in the Welsh revival. The revival shut down bars
and houses of ill repute. Even animals couldn’t respond to the commands of their
masters because their language was totally cleaned up. Such is the effect a revival
from heaven will produce.
The question that burned for so long in Martin Luther’s heart was how could he be
good enough to gain God’s approval. No matter what he tried, he just couldn’t do it.
He even became a monk, thinking that would solve his anxiety …but it didn’t.
Finally, one day as he was pouring over the Scriptures, he received a revelation that
would totally change not only him, but multitudes who received it as he preached
it to the world.
